This officially licensed 8×10 photograph from Photofile has been personally signed by the Philadelphia Athletics’ Bobby Shantz in blue sharpie marker. Shantz has included the inscription “STRUCK OUT JACKIE 1952 ALL-STAR GAME.” referencing one of the most famous strikeouts of his career. Bobby Shantz spent 16 years in the major leagues and played for the Athletics from 1949-1956, moving from Philadelphia to Kansas City with the team in 1955. Shantz had a long and illustrious career where he amassed a 119-99 record with a 3.38 ERA and 1,072 career strikeouts. Additionally, he was the 1952 AL MVP, a 1958 World Series Champion, won eight consecutive Gold Glove Awards (1957-1964) and was a 3-time All-Star selection (1951, 1952, 1957). In one of his most famous performances, Shantz struck out the side in the 5th inning of the 1952 All-Star Game, retiring Whitey Lockman, Jackie Robinson and Stan Musial. This photograph depicts that strikeout of baseball legend Jackie Robinson.
